United Way Code of Ethics
United Way of Odessa (UWO) has a unique role as a leader of local philanthropy and has earned the public trust through many years of ethical, honest, and responsible charitable service. The continued success of United Way of Odessa depends on the ethical conduct of its employees, volunteers, and representatives.

This Code of Ethics is the policy of United Way of Odessa and should be used to guide the conduct of all employees, volunteers, and representatives.

Personal Integrity
A personal commitment to integrity in all circumstances benefits each individual as well as the organization. To this end, UWO employees, volunteers, and representatives shall:
Tell the truth and avoid misrepresentation
Ensure fairness and objectivity in all activities
Exhibit honesty in communication and respect for the opinions of others

Accountability
The UWO has responsibilities to its customers, including local donors and other stakeholders. These customers have placed faith in the UWO. To uphold this trust, the UWO shall:
Make full and fair disclosure of all relevant information to customers, who have the right to know how their dollars are spent.
Spend customers' money wisely, efficiently and objectively
Evaluate agency programs and outcomes and shift resources where they are needed to ensure client success
Be a good steward of contributions from the community

Voluntary Giving
The UWO opposes any form of coercive giving and strives to give each donor the best opportunity possible to make an informed choice. To foster this environment, UWO shall:
Promote voluntary giving and access to quality information
Recognize that the decision to give is a personal matter
Assist donors to become more informed about community needs and resources

Conflict of Interests
The appearance of a conflict of interest could tarnish the reputation and diminish the community's trust of UWO. To avoid this, UWO employees, volunteers, and representatives shall:
Refrain from influencing decisions made by United Way of Odessa that result in their own financial benefit or in financial benefit to family members or any organization/business represented.
Discuss any potential conflict of interest with the Executive Director of UWO, who may refer such matters to the Executive Committee as appropriate.

Confidentiality
Donors, agencies, and volunteers expect UWO to safeguard all information entrusted to them. To meet this standard, UWO employees, volunteers, and representatives:
Do not disclose inappropriately any information that is confidential, privileged, or not publicly available.
Respect the right of privacy of all persons and firms associated with UWO.

Diversity and Equal Opportunity
UWO is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to the principle of diversity. We therefore:
Practice equal opportunity in all hiring and promotion of employees and selection of volunteers.
Value, champion, and embrace diversity in all aspects of UWO activities and respect to others without regard to race, color, religion, creed, age, sex, national origin or ancestry, disability, or marital status.
