Is United Way Governed Locally or by the National Organization?

United Way of Odessa is an autonomous and locally governed organization. A volunteer Board of Trustees composed of local key business and community leaders in Odessa governs the organization. However, the United Way of Odessa is affiliated with United Way of America’s national service and training centers.

How much of my donation goes to helping people?

Our local United Way has been successful at keeping its overhead costs to a minimum. In fact, 80 cents on every dollar that you give, goes directly to programs and services that matter the most, supporting children, families and improving our community.

Is my contribution to United Way tax deductible?

If you itemize deductions on your annual income taxes, then your donation is tax deductible. If you have more in-depth tax deduction questions, we encourage you to check with your tax advisor.

Why should I give to United Way, when I also receive solicitations from other charitable organizations?

Your gift to United Way allows you to accomplish more than you can alone accomplish. When you give to a specific charity, you support a cause. When you give to United Way, you help improve people’s lives and strengthen our entire community!

United Way invests your donation in more well-managed programs that change lives and strengthen families more than any other organization in this community. Your local United Way supports the entire family. Our expertise and standards of excellence for helping others are unequalled in Ector County.
